During Algologs, we will increase the % of engagement with everyday algorithms. Algologs is part of a series of occurances meant to open up the usually Brussels-based Algolit meetings by inviting external speakers, presenters and participants to join the conversation. This two-day event is an extention of Algolit, a workgroup where text-based practices and algorithms meet. This script is an improved version of the original script by Andrej Karpathy. The model is based on a script by Justin Johnson. Selected fragments based on the work of the three authors will be read by Fred Bernier, Gijs de Heij and An Mertens. You can explore the different stages of the learning process through the installation in the space. The generator is trained on works by Jules Verne, Shakespeare and Timmermans. Learning to write with Jules Verne, Shakespeare and Felix Timmermans, the CharRNN text generator is a machine that produces new texts using a CharRNN model. CharRNNĪlgolit HS-la Senne/ de Zenne, Brussels, Nov 2017 It is way to experience a few moments that are usually hidden in the making of the model, and that co-design contemporary stories in the way they influence the organisation of information. By executing parts of their construction process in a literary context, they become more legible. They often function as opaque ’blackbox’ algorithms, while they shape applications that are daily used on a worldwide scale, like search engines on the web, translation machines, advertising profiling, facial recognition etc.īecause machine learning models are so present, the members of Algolit felt the need to distillate reading and writing experiments from it. These selflearning algorithms are based on algebra and statistics. The group presents lectures, workshops and a small exhibition about the narrative perspective of machine learning models. In the framework of Saison Numérique the Maison du Livre opens its space for Algolit during three days in a row. The members meet regularly following the principles of the Oulipo-meetings: they share work and thoughts and create together, with or without the company of an invitee. In January 2019 the group became independent. From October 2012 till December 2018 Algolit was a project of Constant, a workgroup around i-literature, free code and texts.
